Kathleen Burckhardt Raises Money for SMD

My name is Kathleen Burckhardt. I live on Vancouver Island, Canada with my family, eight sheep,a llama, and a dog. I school at home, learning from friends and my parents. I am 16 years old.
This year, for a service project, I decided to do a fundraiser for Shree Mangal Dvip Boarding School. Two years ago I my mother and I met Shirley Blair in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada and were informed about SMD. Ever since then we felt the urge to help the school in some way. Last year I organized a film festival fundraiser for a school in Namibia, Africa and when our contact at that school moved away, we decided to raise the money for SMD.
The money we raised was a combination of my film festival, and a few local group donations. My film festival took place on two weekends in our home and we had around twelve people attend each evening. Each night I gave a small presentation on the school and Nepal in general.
I feel like it is important to do a service project every year and try to help others in the world. The world has much to offer us and I wish to try to help spread this to others. In our home schooling we learn that when we help others, we help ourselves. I thank the school for giving me this opportunity.

P.S. Our dog’s name is Sean. It is an Irish name. He is a very sweet and loving being. He would love to meet everyone at SMD!
