Our Friend Daniel Collins

Karma Yangchen and Daniel Collins

SMD  school has always been a supportive care taker and kind to students. Thrangu Rinpoche's school has become a home for hundreds of kids. We treat our faculty members and support staff as our parents. All the members of the school are one family in lovely phrase we call “the SMD family”. The school cares for the children like that our own father and mother

The school focuses on the spiritual, physical and mental development of children. Rinpoche has provided quality education, nutritious food, good accommodation  and much more. Along with preserving Himalayan culture,  the school also puts emphasis on motivating the skills and creativity of the kids. To promote critical thinking, leadership skills, kid power, and generating Boddhichitta (altruism)  we students get the chance to attend different classes like Leadership class, Friday Night Group (meditation and Dharma) and World Today class. These classes are led by our beloved director Shirley Blair, our friend Peter Dalglish sometimes by  volunteers and students too.

Many volunteers come to our school. They teach us  marvelous things,  whether in in our studies, sports or extra-curricular activities. They involve us and teach us about critical thinking and leadership skills. These days we have Daniel Collins at our school.  He is doing great service!. He teaches Yoga,  which has helped us to control  and relax our minds and bodies. When Shirley is away, he is also leading meditation class where the Friday night group students learn to meditate, talks about compassion, empathy, the teaching of Buddha and much more. Besides sharing his knowledge and skill with kids he is also  helping our teachers to improve English. He teaches an English class for teachers every Wednesday afternoon.

Daniel's service at our school has been of great help. Because of his generosity SMD  kids and teachers are getting an opportunity to learn something useful. Us kids would like to acknowledge our heartfelt gratitude to Daniel as well as to other volunteers who have given their precious time to serve our school.
