Friday Night Group/Meditation Class
This class is about Dharma and how to practice in our daily life and how to meditate. It takes place every Friday evening and is led by our school director Shirley Blair. This class is very important for us because it is one of our school’s aims...to preserve Buddha Dharma in a practical way.
From this class many of us got new experiences and inspired about the Dharma in our lives, and we learn many things which benefit us and others. Now many of us can control our minds a little bit, but before we couldn’t.
Before starting we chant a prayer to take refuge in the Buddha, Dharma (the teachings of Buddha) and Sangha (dharma friends, the followers of Buddha who show us the paths like our root lama Thrangu Rinpoche). The main reason for taking refuge is that until we can control our mind, body and speech, we can still do unskillful things. If we don’t take refuge then we are not real Buddhist so, it’s very important for us to take refuge before we do prayers and good actions so it can benefit more sentient beings. Then we usually meditate about 5-6 minutes.
After that we talk about teachings of Buddha and Buddhism, how the teachings of Buddha are helping us in our daily life. We Friday group students would like to express our heart full gratitude towards our Rinpoche for establishing this wonderful school for poor Himalayan Children like us and our dear Shirley for giving time for us every Friday, sharing real life based experience about Dharma and passing down the knowledge that she has. We are very proud and fortunate to have this wonderful and great Friday night class every week.
