Interview with Karma Palden

My name is Karma Palden. I am 9 years old. I am now studying in Grade one at SMD. I am from Nar, Manang. It’s far away from the capital ( Kathmandu). It takes a long time to reach my village. (one day by bus and about a week of walking).

I had more difficulties than others in the village because when I was only 2 years old, my parents divorced and I stayed with my mother. My mother had lots of difficulties to look after me by her own. We didn’t get proper food, shelter or clothing in the village. In my village, I use to help my mum in the fields and look after the cattle. We village kids do not get education.

I came to SMD in 2005. I am very glad and also lucky to be in the school. I get good education, proper clothing and shelter in Rinpoche’s school. I also have a lot of friends in the school who help me a lot in everything. Now a have a doll, he’s a bird. He can sing. I named him Pigeon. There are teachers, Palaas (male support staff ) and Amaalas (female support staff) to help me when I need help and they also love me.
