SHERAB'S STORY
Sherab is a dog at S.M.D school at present. He is a boy. Sherab stayed as a street dog for many years. He used to live, sleep and eat on the streets and due to that, he caught several diseases and parasites. The worst disease was mange, which kills dogs.
Sherab looked old, ugly and very dirty when he was found by Jan Salter, the founder of KAT (Kathmandu Animal Treatment) Centre. He had no fur on his body, and the body was worsening with stinky poisons and he was so weak that he was nearly dead.
Sherab is alive now due to Jan’s compassion. It was his karma that she look him from the streets and took him into her home. The main objective in establishing KAT Centre is to help the animals, especially dogs. Jan was so compassionate with him (Sherab) that she felt he was almost her own dog by caring him with her full heart and now Sherab is here with all of us SMDers, due to her full kind and compassionate heart. After he started to get stronger, Jan kept Sherab in the KAT Centre for a healthy social environment, thinking that Sherab would be happier with other dogs at the centre. Sherab stayed along with his new pals at KAT.
Now, Sherab lives with us at SMD school because of a special group named "S.M.D Dog Care Taker Team”, which was founded almost two years ago. We do the work of full caring to needy animals, not only to the dogs who live at SMD, but we also made the aim to give full kindest help to weak animals. The Sherab tale also begins with our group because Sherab was really fortunate to be selected to live here. Our group went to meet him at KAT almost one year back. Credit also goes to our dear administration because they accepted our proposal and to founder Jan Salter who gave us permission to go ahead. Sherab’s name was also given by the care taker team. Actually, it is a Tibetan name which means "wisdom". We named him Sherab according to our Buddhist thinking that it matched with the school's culture and Sherab's own identity.
At present, he is very happy with each one of the SMD family, even the kids look so favourable to him and taker care of him. Maybe he deserves what he is now.
