The idea for organizing this programme came from two Hostel teachers, Wangdu and Dawa Gyaltsen, as we students have to study all 6 days and we only have Saturday to rest. So, to entertain our minds, they organized “SMD Idol” instead of having us watch TV! In a month, there are 4 Fridays; so 2 Fridays are for TV whereas 2 Fridays are for entertainment.

On Friday evening, August 24 th, there was a talent competition among students about their talent in singing. There were four categories of songs (English, Tibetan, Hindi and Nepali.) There were 10 participants for each category. They sang confidently and with lots of courage. We were happy and delighted to listen their sweet voices. There were boys and girls participating. The judges are our hostel wardens: Miss Tsering Diki for the Tibetan section, Miss Karma Yangchen for Hindi, Mr. Lobsang Damcho (Kiran) for English and Mr. Dawa Gyaltsen for the Nepali songs. Among 40 participants, 3 participants were selected from each category. They are the finalists for the next round. We are waiting to see them singing on next Friday.

We like this idea, besides it’s kind of mind refreshing. We are happy with this entertainment plan and hope it will go smoothly and we are eager to learn more from it.
