Kids Stories: B508 Tsewang Gyurme

Tsewang Gyurme joined SMD in 2005. He joined us when he was ten. He is from an area named Nubri which lies in Gorkha district in the Himalayan region of Nepal. Gyurme likes to play basketball with his friends and also likes to read storybooks from the school library. Among the eight different subjects taught at SMD, his favourite is math. He also participates in the school culture programme and especially enjoys singing and dancing in troup numbers.

Tsewang also added this by himself:

In my home there are six members. My parents have four sons, I am the youngest. My eldest brother is married and two other brothers are monks. When I was in the village I had to go after the animals and collect firewood and water for my family. Sometimes my mother went to work in the fields and I had to look after the home. Sometimes I also had to work in the fields.

When I entered SMD School I felt lucky to have nice opportunity to study. Before coming to SMD School I was told that the school had been established by Thrangu Rinpoche (who is a well renowned and respected Buddhist monk) by my monk uncle who is from another monastery. I have been in the school for four years. Now I have many friends and I am happy in the school because I am getting different kinds of knowledge, dharma (teachings of Buddha) and getting opportunities to participate in the school extra-curriculum activities like Drawing class, culture dance and sports.

Tsewang Gyurme says, “I am lucky because I met Rinpoche”. He also says, “After I finishing my studies I would like to go back to my village and want to help in the village”.
