Dr. Jane Goodall, UN Messenger of Peace visited us last winter and made an inspiring speech about individual responsibility and the power of one.
Steve Groh, a circus trainer visited a couple of times. He riveted the kids with some stunts, some of which included flames. The kids learned how to juggle, and spin plates. Arthur Blaxley, a visitor from Calgary taught our kids how to ride the unicycle, and then had four unicycles carried in and donated to SMD. While he was in Nepal, Arthur unicycled the Annapurna circuit! And SMD became home to the Himalayan Unicycle Club.
Dr. Wolfgang Muller (practitioner of Chinese medicine) and his fiancée Andrea visited last winter. They were married in Thrangu Rinpoche’s monastery while they were here. Dr. Wolfgang and Andrea performed a miracle while they were here…they cured all the little kids of their perpetually runny noses! (“Candles”, we call them.) The cure? Soaking little feet in salt-laden hot water ever day for 15 minutes, and then dressing little bodies warmly and little feet in woolen socks. Hey presto! A month later, no runny noses.
Angie and Edmund, friends from the UWC in Norway visited at the Branch School for several months. They have a thoughtful, beautifully-written blogsite, with spectacular photos…check it out at: www.angieandedmund.com At the same time, Johanne (a graduate of the UWC in Norway) stayed with us. With her sunny nature, kind heart and abundant energy, Johanne was a catalyst for growth for everyone, kids and staff. We’ve placed four kids at RCNUWC over the past few years, and several graduates and teaching faculty have come to visit. We have karma with RCNUWC.
And some of our overseas kids came back for the summer: Bhuti, Ugyen, and Dawa Dolma all came home.
