FRIDAY NIGHT CLASS WITH RINPOCHE
We are the Friday Night Meditation Group. We came up with an idea to invite Thrangu Rinpoche to teach the class someday. After a few weeks of planning, one of our classmates wrote a letter to Rinpoche in her best Tibetan, requesting him to teach us. When he received the request, to our delight, Rinpoche accepted, which was very lucky for us, because he had just finished the Namo Buddha Seminar a teaching for his international students.
We went to Thrangu Tashi Choling Monastery in Boudha. It’s only five minutes away from SMD. There were more than 45 of us including 30 students, some volunteers, SMD graduates and Shirley ( the Director of the School). Our Principal, Khenpo Chonyi Rangdrol was waiting in the small shrineroom near Rinpoche’s room.
We started meditation as usual. After that, Rinpoche started his teaching by talking about the importance of practising Dharma and how we can do that. He also talked about how important our Himalayan religion, culure and language are, and how we can preserve them. Rinpoche focussed on how we as individuals can bring changes in our own society and in the whole country. He made our understanding clear about his aims for establishing SMD School.
He made all of us realise how lucky we should feel to be born in the Himalayas when he explained the fact that this part of the world is blessed with 5 auspicious words, "OM MANI PADME HUNG HRIH", which some children learn to say before they can even call their father and mother "Ama" and father "Apa".
Khenpo Chonyi Rangdrol did an excellent job with the translation for Shirley (School Director) and our volunteers. The class was enjoyable and we thought Rinpoche was happy to see the kids having interest in the Dharma. At the end of the class, Rinpoche offered each of us a photo of Chenrizig (Avalokitesvara), a blessed holy thread and a blessed key chain with the Kalachakra seed syllable on it.
