Thrangu Tashi Yangtse Monastery

Namo Buddha is a sacred place for Buddhist pilgrims. Many Buddhist people go for pilgrimage durng important festivals or on some important days. It’s also a place where the great Lord Gautam Buddha sacrificed his body to a starving tigress and her four cubs. He sacrificed his body without feeling hesitation or fear, but with a mind full of mercy, kindness and love towards that tigress and her cubs. The place is about forty kilometers from the Boudhnath stupa, Kathmandu. It is located on elevated land. It is a pleasant and pollution-free place. You can still see the statue of great Lord Buddha with the starving tigress and her cubs. It is really a wonderful place to visit for a pilgrimage. We can also see many small temples and stupas at Namo Buddha.

This year our Very Venerable Khenchen Thrangu Rinpoche consecrated his new monastery at Namo Buddha. The name of the monastery is Thrangu Tashi Yangtse Monastery. The monastery will be the main residence for Rinpoche’s monks to study and practice Buddhist philosophy. The inauguration went on for three days from the 5th to 7th of December and was attended by thousands of people from all over the world.

Rinpoche’s main aim in mounting a monastery at Namo Buddha is to help his monks to focus more on the study of Buddhist philosophy, meditation and various aspects of work in the monastery. He has also established many other monasteries and a school in Nepal.
