Friday Night Meditation Group

Last Friday night, the children met to meditate in SMD's library. For the past few months, they've been studying the Bodhisattvacharyavatara (in English).

On Friday night, I split them into small groups and challenged them to tell what they think the practice of a bodhisattva is. They had to discuss, and come to some kind of agreement and then report back to the larger group.

One group wrote the poem below. I think it shows quite a deep level of understanding.

The Way of the Bodhisattva

...according to five kids in the Friday Night Meditation Group

Replacing “I” into “we”,
Getting rid of attachment,
Turning chanted prayers into action,
Purifying the mind and being selfless,
Blowing away the dark clouds of ignorance
Alerting yourself in time...
This is the practice of Bodhisattva.
