Everyone pictured above (except Tsering Thinley B292) who has an Admission number his name is one of our own...agraduate of SMD school. Several years ago, Thrangu Rinpoche suggested that we encourage our own students to go on with their education so they could come to teach at SMD. Our own graduates speak all three languages that we use (Tibetan, English and Nepali). They have also had years of training in the Buddhist way of life, so they tend to be very dedicated to giving service.
Ugyen Karma B196 finished the International Baccalaureate Diploma at St. Julian's School in Portugal. He is on a Gap year now, giving service to SMD School. Ugyen is working full time as an assistant to the Director, Shirley Blair.
Tseten Gelek B204 is a graduate of SMD. He is staying with us while he finishes Grades 11 and 12 at another school (we are too crowded to offer 11 and 12). Tseten works part time as a Hostel teacher and serves as our Junior Dance Master. He is also working in the Director's (Shirley"s) office to learn a little about management.
Pema Norbu B161 is in First Year of university, continuing his deep interest in computers, graphic design and art in general.Pema has been running the Computer Lab for a couple of years and he teaches computer skills, graphics and art to the younger kids.
Zamling B199 is in Third Year university (Bachelor's level degrees are 3 year courses in Nepal). Zamling is also teaching at SMD. He teaches Special Opportunity Class, which is a class for late starters. Zamling started the L2L (License to Learn) programme at SMD. It is a programme that encourages peer teaching (kids helping kids).

SMD Girls Soccer Team Win 2008 National Championship
In SMD, girls and boys are treated equally in every field. In sports too, girls have the same opportunity as boys. We have a girls’ soccer team in our school. Our girls were greatly influenced by one of our volunteers named Chamila Sten, who was here for few months in 2003.
Chamila organized a soccer team for girls and coached them for the first time in SMD. After that, our girls had more interest in soccer even after Chamila left the school, so two of our boys, Tsering Thinley B292 and Migmar Lama D526 started coaching them. They made the girls wake up early in the morning and took them jogging, made them exercise and trained them.
The girls progressed day by day so they were able to participate in the inter-house girl’s football tournament. Our girl’s team is divided into senior team, intermediate team, junior team and sub-junior team. All the teams are coached by the students themselves. There are routines made for both girls and boys to play and practice soccer.
This year 2008, ANFA (All Nepal Football Association) organized a nation-wide girls’ interschool football tournament in which our SMD girls also also took part for the for the first time under the coaching of Tsering Thinley and Migmar Sherpa. Tsering Wangdue (one of our Hostel Heads) was the manager of the team.
There were twelve schools altogether in the tournament. Our girls’ team was made ready and strong and they were trained every morning for a month before going for the match. After a hard training and their hard work, our girls defeated the first school with 13-0! Likewise, our team overcame all the football teams they faced. Finally; they won the final match and raised the trophy. In addition to that our student, Bimala Tamang B242 became “THE MAN OF THE MATCH”. In this way, our school’s girls’ soccer team was successes to gain the title Nation Wide Girls’ Football Championship 2008.
The effort and the hardship made by our girls influenced all the future girls in the whole nation. Our girls and Thrangu Rinpoche’s school for Himalayan children made history.
